WAPT 2017 Nominations

WAPT would like to announce the following board position is open for nomination for the 2017 WAPT conference.

President-Elect, West Side:

Per the WAPT by-laws and constitution the election of the President-Elect will alternate from the West side to the East side of the state on an annual basis. This year we will be electing a member in good standing from the Wast side of the state for President-Elect.

We have three candidates for this year’s election:

Paul Vigil – Clover Park School District

Paul Vigil is the Director of Transportation for the Clover Park School District.  He has been at Clover Park for the past 7 and a half years.  Previous to Clover Park he was the Transportation Supervisor at East Valley School District in the Spokane area.  Paul has also held positions as a special needs dispatcher and school bus driver.  Paul has been involved in pupil transportation in Washington since 2000.  He has been a driver trainer for the past 6 years and received the Certificate of Graduation from the WAPT/CWU Pupil Transportation Management program in 2008.    He has served on the state roadeo committee for the past 12 years, and has held positions on the WAPT state and local boards.

Pupil Transportation is not the same today as it has been in the past.  Because of that, we have to operate and react differently than we ever have before.  WAPT as an associate that represents bus driver, mechanics and other transportation professionals must evolve as well.  I would like to be a part of that evolution, and look forward to working with the board and the membership to make it happen.

Dawnett Wright – University Place School District:

Dawnett Wright wants to be your next WAPT President-Elect.

Dawnett has a strong and impressive, twenty-five year transportation background. Beginning her career driving bus in the Air Force; she moved into student transportation in the state of California. While in California, Dawnett was a State Certified Driver Instructor. Dawnett also served as President of the local Chapter (12) of California Association of Student Transportation Officials (CASTO); additionally, she sat on that State Board for two terms.

Six years ago, Dawnett brought her passion and skills to Washington State. Dawnett has worked on both sides of our beautiful state, working in Pasco and the Yakima Valley prior to heading to Puget Sound ESD. She currently is the Director of Transportation with University Place School District.

Dawnett is a proud CWU Pupil Management Training Program graduate, as well as a Washington State School Bus Driver Instructor.

Dawnett has a rich history within Washington Pupil Transportation, having served as the WAPT Interim President-Elect in 2011-2012, followed by ESD 105 State Board Representative and is proudly serving as the current ESD 121 chapter Vice President.

Dawnett is the proud mama of two beautiful and strong adult daughters. In her off time Dawnett enjoys CrossFit, long walks with her two giant German Shepard’s, and having fun with friends. Dawnett puts her all into every venture she seeks. As shown by her Spartan Race Trifecta medals. She works hard and plays hard.

Coupled with her passion for the transportation industry and student safety Dawnett seeks to continue the excellence of WAPT by becoming your 2017-2018 President-Elect. A vote for Dawnett is a vote for the WRIGHT STUFF!

Elizabeth Fisher – White River School District

I want to begin by saying what a phenomenal opportunity it is to run for WAPT Westside President-Elect.  Your WAPT Board & Regional Directors strive to advocate, educate and validate for schools and student transportation.  In our organization, we are all together in providing safe and quality transportation, and that is all thanks to our Vendors, state and local administration, Technicians, Support Staff, Drivers, Bus Aides as well as parents.  I would like to see our organization continue to uphold the core values in providing for students with the ideation in mind, “What’s best for kids!”

My name is Elizabeth Fisher, Transportation Director for the White River School District.  I have been involved in Pupil Transportation for 18 years.  Like most of you, I began my career as a school bus driver and have worked in several capacities within the Eatonville School District for 12 years, from Bus Driver, Dispatcher, Support Service Assistant, Union Secretary, and Local Negotiation Teams.  During this time I attended CWU from 2010-2012, where I was able to expand my knowledge as well as acquaintances within our organization. In 2013-2014 I had the opportunity to move to Idaho to work as a Supervisor for the Kuna Jt. School District, which was a tremendous experience.  I worked closely with the regional directors and the Idaho State Department in bringing PBIS training to Drivers throughout the state.

2015 brought me back to Washington State as I began a Supervisor Position with the Montesano School District.  This opportunity put me within a great team of Transportation Supervisors, Driver Trainers and Mechanics at the Capital Chapter WAPT, where I served as Chapter Secretary in 2016 and currently the WAPT Representative for 2017.

My goal as President-Elect will be to continue to advocate for our industry, educate and inform our local chapters and Validate why we are here….to do “What’s best for Kids!”
